Essentials at a glance
The experience
With your private guide, explore the sanctuary of Pachacamac, where pilgrims from across the Andes once came to consult its oracle, and stand before the Temple of the Sun above the desert coast. Then sit down to a buffet of Peruvian specialties in a hacienda and watch the elegant Peruvian Paso horse, often with marinera music and dance.
Tip: bring a light jacket on cloudy or winter days.
Step by step
Your private guide and driver collect you at your hotel and head south of Lima to the Lurín valley, where the sanctuary of Pachacámac stands.
We start at the museum so the site makes sense before you walk it: the scale model of the sanctuary, the textiles, and the two-faced wooden idol that presided over the oracle.
The Acllahuasi, the House of the Chosen Women, where the women devoted to the cult lived, and the plazas where pilgrims were received.
The stepped adobe pyramids raised by the coastal lords. Each one had its own access ramp and its own courtyard.
The cemetery excavated by Max Uhle in 1896. That work set out the site's historical sequence for the first time and is still a reference point for Peruvian archaeology.
The most imposing structure in the sanctuary, on the highest terrace, looking out over the desert and the Pacific.
A buffet of traditional Peruvian creole cooking. Please note that the restaurant does not prepare separate vegan or vegetarian dishes.
A display of the Peruvian Paso horse, famous for its smooth, even gait, often accompanied by marinera dancing.
We drop you back at your hotel door at around 4:30 PM.

It is a breed raised on the Peruvian coast since the sixteenth century and declared national cultural heritage. Its gait is lateral rather than bouncing, so the rider barely moves in the saddle: the old saying was that you could carry a full glass without spilling it. At the show you see it alongside the marinera, the dance a couple performs around the horse.
The Pachacamac sanctuary closes on Mondays, so we do not run this tour that day. The calendar will not offer you a Monday. If Monday is your only free day, write to us and we will suggest another tour of Lima.
