Essentials at a glance
The experience
With your private guide, explore the Larco Museum, from the first cultures of the Andes to ceremonial offerings, music and the famous erotic ceramics gallery. Dine at Café del Museo, then continue to the Magic Water Circuit, where thirteen fountains come alive with water, music and laser light after dark.
Tip: bring a light jacket for the evening at the fountains.
Step by step
We pick you up in Miraflores, San Isidro or Barranco and head to Pueblo Libre, the quiet neighbourhood where the Larco Museum sits.
The museum opened to the public in 1926 and occupies an 18th-century viceroyal mansion built on top of a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid. We start in the gallery that lays out 5,000 years of Peruvian history, so the rest of the visit makes sense.
Moche, Nasca, Chimú and Chancay. This is where the portrait vessels that look like photographs are, and the visible storage: shelves holding 30,000 catalogued pieces that you walk right through.
How ancient Peruvians understood the world: the levels of the Andean universe, the ceremonies, and the gold and silver that went into the graves of the lords.
In a room of its own, the best-known collection of pre-Columbian erotic pottery in the world. It was not provocation: it stood for fertility and the cycle of life.
An early dinner on the café terrace, among the bougainvillea and in view of the pyramid and the mansion. It is one of Lima's best-rated restaurants — plenty of people book a table here without visiting the museum. Let us know in advance about any dietary restrictions.
Thirteen illuminated fountains in the Parque de la Reserva. You walk inside the Tunnel of Surprises, and the night closes with the water, light and music show at the Fuente de la Fantasía.
We drop you off at your hotel door in Miraflores, San Isidro or Barranco.

Yes. Children aged 0–3 travel free and don't count toward the group tier; ages 4–11 pay the child rate for your group's tier (US$120, US$115 or US$105), and from 12 they pay the adult rate.
It is the only museum in Lima with a visitable storeroom: you walk in among shelves holding more than forty thousand ceramic pieces arranged by culture, which is normally off limits to visitors. It also holds the Moche erotic ceramics collection, in a separate gallery.
